As the sixteenth installment (that's right, count them up!) to the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is sure to bring the excitement and anticipation of the past fifteen installments. If the name sounds familiar, it's because there have been 3 previous games that contained "Modern Warfare" in the title: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. However, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is not a 'part 4' to that series. This installment will be a 'reboot' of sorts for the Modern Warfare series and not necessarily a continuation. Developer Infinity Ward has called it a 're-telling' of the series to get it closer to what modern warfare really is in today's society. We get to see some of the same characters return, including Captain John Price, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a different storyline set in a different timeline [compared to the original series].
Users can play single player campaign mode. These campaigns will take the player all across Europe and the Middle East. Single player campaigns are also made to focus more on the reality and morality of modern warfare. Players will get graded and rewarded accordingly at the end of each level. How will you grade out? How many innocent civilians and/or bystanders did you take out thinking they were a threat?
There will still be your classic multiplayer modes with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. In this installment, there is a multiplayer mode called Gunfight. With Gunfight, you can team up with your best bud and battle it out with 2 of your other buds. This 2v2 melee is quick and exciting, and because you don't respawn, you have to plan out your attacks and execute with precision.
Killstreaks are back, folks! Based on an article by pcgamer.com:
Killstreak rewards return in Modern Warfare, and they'll only make you more fearsome. Rewards for uninterrupted killing sprees that we know of so far are a care package with juggernaut assault gear, a manned infantry assault tank with a .50 cal machine gun, and an aircraft that sprays the battlefield with white phosphorus to blind and burn enemies.
If those are some of the known rewards, just imagine what else is waiting to be discovered!
One glaring difference between this installment of Call of Duty and previous ones is that Modern Warfare will NOT have a Zombies mode. In trying to stay true to the name Modern Warfare, developers went away with Zombies mode. Who's to say that Zombies aren't realistic enough that we couldn't one day be fighting a war with them instead of each other? All it takes is for that first infected person (Agent 0) to spread paranoia. Either way, developers did not want to take away from the realism of the rest of Modern Warfare. Fighting terrorist groups in cities across Europe and the Middle East is very realistic; we're far closer to a World War 3 than a World War Z. It doesn't look like Infinity Ward will be taking Zombies mode out from all Call of Duty series though, just Modern Warfare.
Another mode of play is Co-op. Team up with 3 of your best friends and partake in Operations. These 4 player Operations are designed to be continuations and/or side missions from the campaign missions. Operations will also test a player's ability to plan and execute in-depth tactics and strategy.
